His fun-in-the-sun satisfaction vanished. He looked as bleak as Hugh and me. â€Å"That changes everything.† I looked among him and Hugh, feeling as naã ¯ve as Cody. â€Å"What’s that mean precisely? I’ve knew about calling, yet that’s about it. I don’t know a points of interest. I don’t know anybody it’s happened to.† Subside gestured. â€Å"Me either, yet I recognize what it is. Essentially, a ground-breaking human calls and ties an evil presence to their will. That human would then be able to detain and control the demon.† â€Å"Like Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus .† We as a whole went to gaze at Cody. Refering to highbrow artistic references was typically my thing, not his. â€Å"What?† he asked, looking awkward under our investigation. â€Å"I needed to peruse it in high school.† I glanced back at Peter. â€Å"Okay, we’re interminable, and we would never at any point scratch an evil presence. How could a human control one?† â€Å"Humans who utilize enchantment employ an alternate sort of intensity than immortals. Moreover, from what I’ve heard, the individuals who bring evil presences regularly have help,† clarified Peter. He looked at Hugh for affirmation. â€Å"From another demon,† the devil said. â€Å"Whoa. Let’s return to the part about controlling evil spirits. What precisely is this human making Jerome do?† asked Cody. â€Å"Probably nothing,† said Hugh. â€Å"Or else somebody would have discovered him at this point. My speculation is he’s simply being hidden.† Cody scowled. â€Å"Why? In the event that you’ve got a pet evil presence, why not use him? Something else, what’s the point?† Everything met up now. â€Å"To get him out of the picture,† I said gradually. â€Å"That’s it. The last piece in this unusual evil spirit interest. That’s what all the confusion was building toward.† â€Å"Right. Cedric disposes of Jerome, and unexpectedly there’s an opening in Seattle for another archdemon. What's more, if Jerome doesn’t return soon, they will get another archdemon and restore the pecking order here.† Hugh motioned to us all. â€Å"The business as usual will resume.† â€Å"Let’s stick to ‘when’ he returns and not ‘if,'† I said. â€Å"And I don’t think Cedric’s behind it.† â€Å"Of course Cedric’s behind it,† said Hugh. â€Å"They’ve been battling about an area, isn't that so? You surprisingly should know that.† I shook my head, reviewing Cedric’s irritation and Nanette’s priggish look. â€Å"No†¦I think Cedric’s being set up here. In the event that you ask me, it’s Nanette who’s behind it.† I gave them a fast recap of my perceptions of her with both Cedric and Jerome. Hugh angled an eyebrow. â€Å"Portland Nanette? She’s hot, I’ll give you that, yet she’s not that strong.† â€Å"All the more explanation behind her to meddle with Jerome and Cedric. She’s been stressed over them hauling her into their turf war. Additionally, on the off chance that she consolidated her capacity with a human equipped for a summoning†¦Ã¢â‚¬ â€Å"Yeah,† he conceded. â€Å"She could possibly do it†¦but that doesn’t mean she did. My money’s still on Cedric.† â€Å"Wouldn’t she get in a tough situation for that?† asked Cody. â€Å"Only if she’s caught,† said Peter. I murmured. â€Å"And meanwhile, this is terrible for Jerome.† â€Å"Glad to see your forces of expressing the conspicuous didn’t vanish with your shape-shifting,† commented Hugh. I gave him a glare. â€Å"I mean notoriety astute. Nanette revealed to me loads of individuals have been watching out for Jerome in view of all the stuff that’s gone down here-especially with letting nephilim escape. They think he can’t keep control. Regardless of whether he surfaces tomorrow, I’ve got the opportunity to envision that getting gathered in any case won’t look good.† â€Å"It won’t,† concurred Hugh. â€Å"In truth, that’s the other explanation I halted by. A lot of evil spirits are having a gathering today around evening time to discuss supplanting him. Back room of the Cellar at seven.† â€Å"Wow, they move fast,† said Cody. â€Å"It’s nothing official. When word got out that Jerome was gone, each evil spirit moving for power moved in like that.† Hugh snapped his fingers. I avoided calling attention to that all evil spirits were moving for power when in doubt. â€Å"They’re generally only here to stand up for themselves-show how intense they are, comfortable up to Grace and Mei. They may attempt to rub elbows with us a bit, actually.† â€Å"Why? We don’t have any state in this,† said Peter. He looked between every one of us. â€Å"Do we?† â€Å"No, yet in the end somebody from Management will come here to evaluate the circumstance and will converse with us in their appraisal. Everything has an influence. Those needing the position will swagger around, show how they could keep this spot in line, and put their offers in.† â€Å"Is Nanette going to be at this meeting?† I asked dubiously. â€Å"Yes,† said Hugh, peering toward me. â€Å"And so will Cedric.† I peered toward him directly back. â€Å"I’m letting you know, it’s not Cedric. I’m sure of it.† â€Å"What, you have doughnuts with him for seven days, and now you all are BFF?† â€Å"No, yet I realize him better than you do. What's more, I think I comprehend Nanette better than you too,† I shot back. â€Å"So, you guys†¦Ã¢â‚¬ started Cody, a scrutinizing note in his voice. â€Å"Are you laying down with Cedric?† Hugh requested. â€Å"Are you playing the two sides now?† â€Å"No!† â€Å"It sort of sounds like it.† â€Å"You guys,† rehashed Cody. â€Å"Look,† I stated, â€Å"you simply need to trust Nanette’s guiltless on the grounds that you think she’s hot.† â€Å"She is hot. For a demon.† â€Å"You guys!† shouted Cody. We went to him. â€Å"What about us?† â€Å"What about us?† I inquired. â€Å"What are we?† Cody’s face was squeezed and stressed. Like Peter, he no longer appeared that amped up for his newly discovered opportunity. â€Å"Are we human?† I opened my mouth to reply and afterward fell quiet. I sincerely didn’t know. Hugh looked at me and shrugged. â€Å"Not exactly,† said Peter. â€Å"I think we’re kind of†¦in balance. We’re neither human nor immortal.† â€Å"We must be one or the other,† contended Hugh. â€Å"There’s no limbo comparable to mortality.† Dwindle shrugged. â€Å"Hell’s still got the rent on our spirits. That’s not going to change, regardless of who our archdemon is. Expelling him from the condition cuts us off from the capacities we get with interminability, yet that’s temporary.† â€Å"But does it cut us off from everlasting status itself?† asked Cody. â€Å"Can we die?† Quietness fell. â€Å"Shit,† said Hugh. â€Å"I think†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Peter bit his lip. I had an inclination he was toward the finish of his insight regarding this matter. You read Succubus Heat CHAPTER 11 in class Exposition models â€Å"I think they’d bring us back on the off chance that we did.† â€Å"You think ?† asked Cody warily. Subside surrendered. â€Å"I don’t know! This has never transpired, alright? Possibly we are human. Possibly we can become ill. Perhaps we can lose in a battle. Perhaps Georgina’ll get her period. I don’t know, okay?† â€Å"Whoa,† I stated, fixing up. â€Å"What do you mean-â€Å" â€Å"Just stop it, all of you,† shouted Hugh. â€Å"We’re not going to make sense of any of this at the present time. Simply go to the gathering and discover there. Beauty and Mei are attempting to oversee things for the present, and they’ll know what’s up. No reason for freezing now.† We stayed there, and I realized that in spite of his words, we were all without a doubt freezing. My stomach was rolling, however this time, it wasn’t a response to the cutting off of my bond with Hell. This was conceived of unadulterated dread. At the point when things were terrible in my life-especially after Seth and I had separated there had been times when I’d detested interminability. Demise had sounded engaging. I really hadn’t had the option to comprehend how I could persevere through the hundreds of years to come and had begrudged the limited life expectancies of people. Be that as it may, presently? Confronted with the possibility that I could really bite the dust? Unexpectedly, frantically, I needed to stick to my interminability with each piece of my quality. Passing was dreary, dim, and alarming. All the world’s threats slipped on me without a moment's delay, all the things I’d up to this point had the option to overlook. Auto crashes. Electric shock. Winged creature influenza. The world was not, at this point safe. On the off chance that the vampires felt any such feelings of trepidation, they evidently chose it wasn’t going to hinder their most recent couple of days as free men. They rose as one and made movements to leave. â€Å"Well, on the off chance that Jerome’s going to get supplanted with or without us, at that point there’s no point sitting and moping,† said Peter. â€Å"We got cut off without warning,† I let him know. â€Å"We could get reconnected to Hell’s circuit board similarly as out of nowhere, you know. Aren’t you somewhat anxious about getting captured out in the sun?† â€Å"They’re not going to settle on any choices in the following five hours,† said Peter recklessly too recklessly, I thought. He stopped a second, his look driftin

racism speech Essay - 1431 Words

For centuries a disease has plagued our nation just like AIDS has Africa, I bet you all are wondering what this disease is. You probably think that it can be treated with limited breakouts every few years. The virus Im talking about is racism. Imagine living every day in fear knowing that where ever you go, everything you do is being observed and judged. Imagine walking into a store or a boutique and having someone watch every move of yours thinking that you’re going to steal something, or expose a bomb from under your clothes. Imagine being mocked and hated at school because youre different. Imagine being left out because of your skin colour. No one enjoys being left out, but then, why do people judge? Why do people set a fire of†¦show more content†¦The employee made sure that nothing had been stolen from the shelfs that he walked past by. I believe that racism should be stopped because racism can result in acts of physical abuse and violence. People get mentally and physically hurt by people who are being racist. For example there was a refugee who was beaten by a racist guy in Wollongong for doing absolutely nothing; he was punched multiple times before being robbed. The refugee, who had arrived in Australia from his native Eritrea only five days earlier, required stitches in his left ear and lost a tooth in the ordeal, this isn’t normal in any way. People who get mentally hurt by racist actions can do strange things. They can start to become racist themselves, or even commit suicide, which is an awful thing. Racism not only leads to social problems but it also causes mental illness and violence for example, self-harm, depression and the harming of others. In most cases the victim starts to feel helpless, isolated, depressed and irritated. Experiencing racism can change a victim’s life forever. Nearly half of all Australian residents from a diverse background have experienced racism at some time in their life. WHY? Only because they look different? Influence on Principal Recruitment and Selection †MyAssignmenthelp.co

Question: Discuss about the Influence on Principal Recruitment and Selection. Answer: Introduction The recruitment procedure of a company includes various steps such as attracting talented candidates, analysing their qualification, selecting them for the right position and retaining them for a long time. These steps get affected by different external and internal factors which create problems for human resource department, such as legal requirements, inflation, diversity issues, change in technology and organisational image. In modern times, it is necessary for organisations to recruit talented employees because it influences the development of such company. This report will analyse different factors which creates recruitment challenges for Coles Supermarkets. Further, different human resource management theories will be provided in the report for addressing the recruitment issues. Coles is an Australia supermarket corporation which operates in retail and consumer services industry, and the company is owned by Wesfarmers Limited. As per Kumar (2008), the organisation has more than 800 supermarkets throughout Australia, and they employ more than 100 thousand employees. The net revenue of the corporation was more than AU$33 billion in 2016 financial year. The company received around 3000 to 5000 offline job applications in a week, and the recruitment targets of the enterprise are more than sixty thousand candidates annually. The company also uses online platforms to hire new employees (Wright Lund 2003). The hiring procedure of Coles Supermarket gets influenced due to various internal and external elements. Following are few challenges faced by human resource department of Coles. There are different economic factors in Australia which affect the recruitment procedure of a company. For example, during the stage of inflation, the loving cost for the employee's increases in the country. As per Price, Bailey Pyman (2014), in inflation, corporations are requiring to provide high salary packages and benefits to their employees. Most of the people did not prefer to work for supermarkets in such situations because of the low pay grade. The human resource department faces difficulties in attracting the talented and service-oriented candidates to the organisation. Demand and Supply of Workers Coles has more than 100 thousand employees in different departments, and their annual target for recruitment is around 60,000 employees. According to Whitaker (2003), these numbers show the high demand for labour in Coles Supermarket. The overall rate of unemployment in Australia has hit record high rates in by raiding 5.9 percent in February of 2017. In supermarkets of the retail industry, the demand for workers remains considerably high, but the supply is low. One of the reasons for the shortage of employees is related to low population in Australia. The labour pool of Australia is also shrinking as the population is becoming old. Most of the aged people did not prefer to work in a supermarket because of it is a fast pace job, and the employees are required to have basic technical knowledge (Chew Chen 2008). The diversity and cultural difference in the industry affect the recruitment process, for example, is an American corporation outsourced its business activates to China than human resource department of China would be different from the organically one to ensure that all the employees with various culture can easily work together. It is necessary for corporations to promote diversity in between employees but many workers did not prefer to work with people of different background. In Australia, many companies discriminate against foreigners or aboriginal peoples, which affect the decision taken by human resource department in recruitment procedure (Shen, Chanda, Dnetto Monga 2009). While recruiting new employees and retaining them in the organisations, the human resource management has to comply with the regulations provided by government such as Fair Work Act. As per Barrett Mayson (2007), these rules ensure that large corporations did not take unfair advantage of the workers and protect them from the unsafe working environment. The regulations force corporations to provide minimum wages and facilities to the employees while retaining them in the organisations. Any changes or alteration in the policies of government can significantly influence the recruitment procedure of Coles. Technological Changes Most of the supermarkets are implementing modern technology in their stores for improving their customers services. Coles online is a service provided by the company which allows users to buy products online, and they get delivery at their house. As per Chavan (2009), while recruiting new employees, the candidates are required to have basic knowledge of technology and computers. Most people are not able to apply for the job because they do not possess technical expertise; most of them include aged peoples. Coles has various competitors in the market such as Woolworths, Aldi and Kogen Pantry. As per Smith (2006), these organisations attract the talented employees of other corporations by paying better salary and incentive packages. For retaining talented employees in the organisation, Coles has to pay higher wages and benefits to their employees. New employees recruitment also became difficult due to strong competition in between companies. Most of the people in Australia did not prefer to work in a retail industry which makes it difficult for HRM to attract talented employees. Retail or supermarkets are not the first choices for people which mean most of the workforce in supermarkets consists of unskilled or unmotivated employees. In a recent controversy, Coles found guilty of underpaying their employees which decrease the reputation of the organisation and due to such controversy, most people did not prefer to work for Coles (Schneiders, Millar Toscano 2017). Coles can implement an On the job training facility for their workers to improve their productivity and provide them knowledge regarding modern technology. This strategy can also benefit the company in recruiting aged peoples. Coles can employ aged people and provide them training regarding advanced technology which can fulfil the demand of labour in the corporation (Round 2006). Professional HR Department By employing profession experts in human resource department, Coles can determine the future changes in the retail industry and government policies. The expert opinions of HR department can assist the corporation in preparing better recruitment strategies which properly employment government regulations regarding employees welfare. The policies formulated by experts can be valuable for the hiring process of Coles (Kurnia Johnston 2003). Coles can implement strict guidelines for promoting diversity in their company; the HRM should provide equal opportunity to employees with different cultural backgrounds. The top-level management should ensure that a motive work environment is established for foreign workers. The company should also update their incentive structure into performance-based which can improve the productivity of employees (Hannon DNetto 2007). Conclusion In conclusion, the HRM of Coles faces various difficulties in recruitment procedure including diversity issues, government regulations, low employee rates, negative image of the company and strong competition. These problems create different problems for HRM which recruiting new employees. The corporation can adopt different HRM policies to reduce their problems in the recruitment process. For example, providing training to employees, establishing better incentive schemes, and hiring experts for future planning. These strategies can benefit the growth of Coles in Australia retail industry. References Barrett, R., Mayson, S. (2007). Multi-Agency working and safeguarding adults in care Essay Example

Multi-Agency working and safeguarding adults in care Essay There have been various cases recently in the news to where abuse has been either suspected of confirmed, for example the Panorama undercover programme at Winterbourne view whereby a range of physical, emotional, psychological abuse were identified. Abuse is defined as A violation of an individuals human and civil rights by any other person or persons. Vulnerable people are more open to abuse due to the individuals either not being able to stand up for themselves and are usually unwell, frail or/and confused. Different types of services try to combat this abuse through taking a multi-agency approach whereby the organisations all work together to discover ways of preventing the abuse from taking place in the beginning or resurrect the situation when abuse has been confirmed by providing a range of support through support planning and single assessment. Rather than the organisations working separately and providing separate services without any communication, multi-agency working encourages the services to work together through sharing information and a co-ordination of approach whereby the individuals needs are central to the process and that a person centred care approach is used. With multi-agency working there will be an array of professionals from different agencies where they will combine each of their individual skills and expertise to meet all of the individuals holistic needs. Not only this but it also requires a co-ordinating professional, to ensure that the organisations are working to satisfactory levels and that the needs of the individual are being met. Another benefit is that through multi-agency working, it is encouraged for the individual to have involvement in their health care services and allows them to feel more confident in talking about their worries, fears and potential abuse. Not only this but having equality through the relationships of the working encourage the individual to develop a higher self-esteem, self-confidence and the strength to stop accepting the abusive situations that may occur are the norm. It also ensures that there is an agreed approach to all of the organisations which are involved including the families and informal carers as well so that they are all aware of and can monitor the situation. Multi-agency working is also a way of enabling better information sharing and communication in terms of the staff, team meetings, communication via emails and written records such as in a care home whereby there would be a daily log which enables each staff coming on shift to be able aware of events that had taken place since they were last on duty. With the multi-agency approach they believe that the sharing of information and concern will conclude to early preventive action on abuse to take place and that patterns of behaviour can be identified of the service users when different members of staff come on to duty which could suggest that abuse is taken place by that worker. Forums are another way in which multi agency works (monthly meetings of residents in care services) where by the individuals are encouraged to share ideas and speak out giving the individuals more confidence to speak out and have a greater ownership and independence in terms of decisions that affect their lives such as being involved in interviewing new care staff. Not only this but it is also a chance for the service users to understand what procedures and guidelines that the care service has and their own rights emphasised to increase their expectations of the individual care that they receive. When the service users are clear on the guidelines they are more understanding on the what the behaviour of the staff should be, so not only are these guidelines are for the use of the staff but they are also for the service user to know what is acceptable behaviour from the staff and what is not. This is why the complaints procedure should be understood by all service users of the health facility and should be able to gain access to by all even if support is needed from an advocate from outside the organisation when making a complaint. So that there is a guarantee that all the staff members understand new procedures and policies, training needs to be implemented. Each new staff that works at the service also will require a formal induction whereby all of these policies and procedures are explained thoroughly, which will then underline their expected behaviour and practice in the service. Without training taking place, abuse is more likely to happen because of the poor practice and the workers lack of understanding of the policies and procedures. To prevent this from taking place and to ensure that the services are working with the best interest of the service user and following the rules and regulations that apply to each of them an independent regulator of health and social care services was established but shortly taken over by The Care Quality Commission previously help by the Commission for Social Care Inspection, the Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Commission in April 2009 (stretch et al, 2010). Procedures laid down by the organisation in conjunction to the multi-agency framework should be followed in terms of cases of alleged or suspected abuse and include six stages including alerting the worker who has the responsibility of dealing with these situations to then for them to refer the allegation to the police or social services who will feedback after investigation and an Adult Protection Case Conference will share results of the investigation with the vulnerable persons family who is the subject of abuse. An assessment is then carried out and a review of a Protection Plan to make sure that the individuals needs are met in the future which will then be monitored and recorded. If another member of staff identifies the abuse they have the chance to whistleblow which since the Public Interest Disclosure Act (1998) the staff have the right not to suffer detrimentally or be fired as a result of disclosing the information. In the past it has been known that staff have been aware of abuse taking place however have not reported it due to not wanting to be known as a grass to the service and their employees. To ensure that new employees of health and social care services are suitable for the job role of caring for vulnerable adults they will require a CRB check which since October 2009 they are required to obtain an Enhanced check rather than the normal standard check. This allows the employer to be aware of the convictions to which these individuals applying for the job may have and therefore will be able to pick which potential employer is actually right for the job role in terms of offering greater protection to the service users. This however may not always go to plan due to the loop holes which can still be identified in cases such as in the Winterbourne View residential care home whereby Panorama went undercover after a whistleblower who previously worked at the care service alerted higher authorities with the management at the care home and to the Quality Care Commission however his claims didnt get followed up however after the programme was shown the Safeguarding Adults Board were made aware and appropriate action was taken in line with established and procedures which should have been followed by the staff members previously to prevent the abuse. The abuse in which was taken place could have been prevented through thorough training of the staff and ensuring they were up to date with these policies and procedures. Not only this however but the recruitment of the staff should also have been more carefully picked with staff members with job history of being a tattooist with no previous healthcare qualifications. In conclusion if the policies, procedures and guidelines were followed correctly and appropriate training was also implemented then the abuse that took place at Winterbourne View would have never happened. If the communication between the different services was also improved through a multi-agency working approach then the abuse could have been stopped a period of time before the Panorama programme.

20 Fun Oxygen Facts for Kids

20 Fun Oxygen Facts for Kids Oxygen (atomic number 8 and symbol O) is one of those elements you simply cant live without. You find it in the air your breathe, the water you drink, and the food you eat. Here are some quick facts about this important element. You can find more detailed information about oxygen on the oxygen facts page. Animals and plants require oxygen for respiration.Oxygen gas is colorless, odorless, and tasteless.Liquid and solid oxygen are pale blue.Oxygen also occurs in other colors, including red, pink, orange, and black. There is even a form of oxygen that looks like a metal!Oxygen is a non-metal.Oxygen gas normally is the divalent molecule O2. Ozone, O3, is another form of pure oxygen.Oxygen supports combustion. However, pure oxygen itself does not burn!Oxygen is paramagnetic. In other words, oxygen is weakly attracted to a magnetic field, but it doesnt retain permanent magnetism.Approximately 2/3 of the mass of the human body is oxygen because oxygen and hydrogen make up water. This makes oxygen the most abundant element in the human body, by mass. There are more hydrogen atoms in your body than oxygen atoms, but they account for very little mass.Excited oxygen is responsible for the bright red and yellow-green colors of the aurora.Oxygen was the atomic weight standard for the other elemen ts until 1961 when it was replaced by carbon 12. The atomic weight of oxygen is 15.999, which is usually rounded up to 16.00 in chemistry calculations. While you need oxygen to live, too much of it can kill you. This is because oxygen is an oxidant. When too much is available, the body breaks excess oxygen into a reactive negatively charged ion (anion) that can bind to iron. The hydroxyl radical can be produced, which damages lipids in cell membranes. Fortunately, the body maintains a supply of antioxidants to combat day-to-day oxidative stress.Dry air is about 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen, and 1% other gases. While oxygen is relatively abundant in the atmosphere, it is so reactive it is unstable and must be constantly replenished by photosynthesis from plants. Although you might guess trees are the main producers of oxygen, it is believed about 70% of free oxygen comes from photosynthesis by green algae and cyanobacteria. Without life acting to recycle oxygen, the atmosphere would contain very little of the gas! Scientists believe detecting oxygen in a planets atmosphere may be a good indication it supports life, since it is released b y living organisms. It is believed much of the reason organisms were so much larger in prehistoric time is because oxygen was present at a higher concentration. For example, 300 million years ago, dragonflies were as large as birds!Oxygen is the 3rd most abundant element in the universe. The element is made in stars that are around 5 times more massive than our Sun. These stars burn carbon or helium together with carbon. The fusion reactions form oxygen and heavier elements.Natural oxygen consists of three isotopes, which are atoms with the same number of protons, but different numbers of neutrons. These isotopes are O-16, O-17, and O-18. Oxygen-18 is the most abundant, responsible for 99.762% of the element. One way to purify oxygen is to distill it from liquefied air. An easy way to make oxygen at home is to put a fresh leaf in a cup of water in a sunny spot. See the bubbles forming on the edges of the leaf? Those contain oxygen. Oxygen may also be obtained through the electrolysis of water (H2O). Runn ing a strong enough electric current through water gives the molecules enough energy to break the bonds between hydrogen and oxygen, releasing pure gas of each element. Joseph Priestly usually gets credit for discovering oxygen in 1774. Carl Wilhelm Scheele likely discovered the element back in 1773, but he didnt publish the discovery until after Priestly made his announcement. The only two elements oxygen doesnt form compounds with are the noble gases helium and neon. Usually, oxygen atoms have an oxidation state (electric charge) of -2. However, the 2, 1, and -1 oxidation states are also common.Fresh water contains about 6.04 ml of dissolved oxygen per liter, while seawater only contains about 4.95 ml of oxygen.

Availability Of Information Online Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Availability Of Information Online - Essay Example E-learning is electronic based training which involves the transfer of instructions and educational material through the internet or intranet and/or CD-ROM (Mason, 2006). It may include use of videos, audio, or written materials. Reflective learning Reflective learning can be classified as one of the earliest learning method. This method of learning can be explained as consciously thinking about a situation and analyzing what one has done or is doing. The thinking can involve looking for commonalities, differences, and interrelations beyond their superficial elements. It can be also seen as learning from present or past experience (Moon, 2004). Finally, reflective learning is the process by which one makes meaning from experiences that involve more than simply attending to events but also, the interaction other individuals, the environment and the world. Reflective learning encourages participation, ensures concentration of the students and offers relevant framework for development o f professionals in their respective fields. Reflective learning also enables instructors to learn from their experiences of teaching and facilitate students learning (Brookfield, 2000). By use of the Kolb cycle (a set of four different stages) instructors can acquire useful model by which to develop their practice. The assumption of the Kolb cycle is that it is insufficient to encompass an experience so as to learn and that the cycle can be entered at any stage. The four stages of the Kolb cycle are concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation. Concrete experience involves actual doing of an act so as to have the first hand experience. Reflective observation may involve reviewing and reflecting on the experience acquired (Scho?n, 1987). Abstraction conceptualization involves the thinking process and concluding of the learning experience. Active experimentation is the planning and the trying out of the information and experiences acquired. It is evident that through reflective learning, the lecturer acquires the necessary skills which can enable him or her effectively teaches and counsels the students (Scho?n, 1987). E-learning and Reflective learning The introduction and continued spread of e-learning may lead to the division of academics from the scholars and tends to lead to the anticipation that classes can be triumphant without the face to face contact of the student with the instructor. E-learning may be most appropriate if three factors are thoroughly addressed, which are technology, instructional needs, and education (Lynch, 2002). However, most modern theories of learning (including E-learning) promote the concept of reflective learning as essential for deep and significant learning. The advancement in technology has enabled e-learning to overcome the traditional disadvantages of using technology to gain experience and knowledge. (Stephenson, 2001) In the past, online learning was passive, using the usual teaching centered approach. However, the e-learning approach used this days incorporates the reflective theory of learning enabling learners to observe, reflect, strategize, and even to plan their own learning. The online learning activity, featuring reflections and collaboration, attempts to assist students in self-directed learning and in improving their skills and knowledge through designing tailor made learning programmes that are well suited to each student (Clarke,

MKTG sustainability Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

MKTG sustainability - Essay Example Placement refers to the concept of places of buying and selling. Marketing sustainability is a revolutionary idea that is essential for guiding the objectives of marketing. It introduces the social aspects of marketing. Marketing sustainability relates to the philosophy of corporate social responsibility. It comes handy in the face of globalization whereby customer attraction and retention activities are becoming intense. The philosophy entails marketing activities that goes beyond profit seeking. It links market share, profitability and good ethics (Nwankwo and Gbadamosi 369). It becomes vital to handle the market in a way that still contributes to the well being of society. Sustainability marketing adds two concepts to the four orientations of marketing. In this sense, marketing includes product and production orientation. In addition, it entails sales and market orientation. Lastly, it entails societal and social marketing orientation. It includes broad categories such as ecological and environmental marketing. It also entails ethical marketin g and elements of social responsibility. Sustainable marketing should be able to meet the requirements of the present generations without jeopardizing the lives of future generations (Nwankwo and Gbadamosi 370). It is defined as the production and creation of sustainable marketing solutions while continuing the satisfaction of consumers and stakeholders. Such marketing should satisfy three conditions. WHY PLAGIARISM IS CONSIDERED TO BE ACADEMIC DISHONESTY Essay

WHY PLAGIARISM IS CONSIDERED TO BE ACADEMIC DISHONESTY - Essay Example By cheating with plagiarism, the student is using someone else’s work but letting their instructor or professor believe that the work is of their own creation. This can also be accomplished if the person writing the paper does not acknowledge work they adapted from someone else. Just as a student is capable of looking at their friend’s answers during a test and then using those answers on their own exam, a student who plagiarizes uses someone else’s words for their own purpose (Gilmore, 2008). They treat another’s work as if it were their own. When a student plagiarizes and resorts to academic dishonesty, they are cheating themselves out of learning. Instead of doing what they must to understand the topic or subject matter, they take the ideas or words that someone else has come up with to trick the instructor or professor into thinking that the student has come up with the ideas. As such, plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty, and cheating, because the student used immoral means of completing their assignment, claiming someone else’s hard work and unique thoughts for themselves (Whitley & Spiegel, 2002).

A Change of Fate in A Tale of Two Cities Essay -- Tale Two Cities Essa

A Change of Fate in A Tale of Two Cities      Ã‚  Ã‚   Authors may use one character to instantaneously change the fate of another character. Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities presents such situations through the characters Lucie Manette, Dr. Manette and Charles Darnay. Lucie, unaware of the existence of her supposedly dead father, Dr. Manette, suddenly discovers through Jarvis Lorry that her father still lives. Lucie learns of the optimistic plans to return her beloved father back to a healthy condition and her future involvement in her father's life. Dr. Manette, after 18 years of imprisonment and harsh treatment, experiences detrimental harm to his mental state and loses his ability to lead a normal life. However, Lorry reunites Dr. Manette with his daughter and travels with them to England in hopes of brightening Dr. Manette's future and improving his deteriorated condition. Later, Charles Darnay, a prisoner in England on trial for treason, receives an acquittal, barely escaping death. Darnay avoids a hi ghly expected guilty verdict with the assistance of his defense lawyers, Mr. Stryver and Mr. Carton. By examining Lucie Manette, Dr. Manette and Charles Darnay, the reader comes to see that through the assistance and intervention of others, one's fate suddenly changes to benefit him.    Lucie Manette experiences a positive change of fate with the sudden intervention and assistance of Mr. Lorry. Lorry unexpectedly notifies Lucie of the existence of her father, as he describes his plans and her role in reviving Dr. Manette to a healthy state. "But he has been found. He is alive...Your father has been taken to the house of an old servant in Paris, and we are going there: I, to identify him if I can:... ...tance of other characters. Mr. Lorry reunites Lucie with her father, Dr. Manette, brightening the future of both of them. Lucie, deprived of a father during childhood, suddenly discovers the existence of her father and her golden opportunity to bond with him. Dr. Manette, troubled by years of harsh treatment, begins his once unimaginable path to recovery. Later, Charles Darnay, a prisoner suspected of treason, avoids a highly expected guilty verdict with assistance of his lawyers, Stryver and Carton. Dickens masterfully depicts that one's fate can change at any instant to benefit him. Hopefully, such a sudden and beneficial change of fate will occur to people worldwide, especially to those living in a constant state of fear and violence. Work Cited Dickens, Charles. The Man Inthe Black Suit – Presence of Evil

Stephen King's â€Å"The Man in the Black Suit† is a short story that makes us think. Who are we in this world? Is our destiny in our hands or is it already written? Can we avoid being in contact with evil? â€Å"The Man in the Black Suit† proves that evil is omnipresent in our world and that there is no way to avoid it. It does not matter who you are, where you are and when you are there, if evil wants to meet you, it will wind a way to do so. We would not be shocked so much if an adult has met the Devil, because we all know that adults are more likely to commit sins. But what when a child meet the Devil? What would a child do wrong to be punished by the Devil? It is difficult to say. â€Å".. This is something that happened to me when I was very young, only nine years old. â€Å"(page 821) Our main character Gary was a young child when he saw the Devil for a reason he has never understood â€Å"Until that Saturday in 1914, I had thought that bears were the worst thi ng the forest could hold. â€Å"(page 831) Kids think that bears are the most terrific creatures in the forest. We can see their huge innocence. Why does evil attack those innocent children? Because evil can attack anybody. Our nine-year old character Gary meets the Devil in the town of Motton as he defines like this : â€Å"The town of Motton was a different world in those day – more different then I could ever tell you. That was a world without airplanes droning overhead, a world almost without cars. † (page 821) As he talks about Motton, we learn that it is a little rural town in western Maine. There was no phone, no doctors, no paved roads and not more than a dozen of houses. All those little things make Motton a completely innocent place. Why would the Devil attack a little innocent farmer town?It does not seem so attractive†¦ But evil does not have any criteria, it is omnipresent. In â€Å"The Man in the Black Suit†, Gary's meeting with evil happens d uring the summer of 1914. â€Å"†¦ one afternoon in the summer of 1914. † (page 821). As we all know, the begging of the 20th century is a very religious period of time in the United States. Also, religion has a lot of power especially in the small rural communities like in the town of Motton. People back then believed in God, and that God will protect them from the Devil if they were good believers. Also the part of pagans was really slim in the society. We could call that period of time an innocent period of time that should have not met the Devil in any case. If the 1910s have not been â€Å"saved† from evil, how could our generation be? We can see that any period of time can be in contact with evil. In conclusion, we can see that in â€Å"The Man in the Black Suit†, evil attacks an innocent child, in an innocent place during an innocent period of time. What can we find more innocent than that to avoid evil?. With those three things combined, we can concl ude that there is not a way to avoid evil in our world, it is absolutely omnipresent.

Descriptive Essay My Head - 1330 Words

Replaying the events in my head, I amble through the bustling hallways - a certain bleak feeling staining my morning. Well aware of the empty sensation seeping into me and beginning to settle uneasily in the pit of my stomach, I m left with no other choice but to continue the school day with a rain cloud of emotions hovering above me. It s difficult to sit through lectures, especially when my brain acquires the unpleasant habit of adding salt to my wound by bringing question and question to the surface. A smile doesn t find a home on my lips, but when it does grace me with its rejuvenating presence, a storm of melancholy crackles and sends my smile packing. If my aloof demeanor and plague of negative thoughts wasn t enough of a weight on my shoulders, then the constant urge to crawl into a hole and disappear was. However, I endured the struggles before deciding that I would try my hardest to overcome the negativity. With the day being far from over, I shifted my focus from I can t wait for the final bell ring to I can t wait until lunch; the shift, however small, lead me to believe that I would be able to tackle the day. Little by little. I needed an outlet for the pent emotions, so I sought out the reassuring presence of my friends, knowing that talking this out would lighten my mood. Emma Roberts Prof. Veach English Composition I January 20th, 2017 A Wicked King â€Å"To see and listen to the wicked is already the beginning of wickedness,†are words from famous philosopher Confucius. They are very applicable through the course of a famous 1606 tragedy named, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare. The main character, named Macbeth, received prophecies from a trio of witches that one day he will become the mighty King of Scotland. These witches, also know as the â€Å"Weird Sisters,† had great influence on Macbeth. These fascinating and frightening nymph-like creatures, that Shakespeare created, reflects a wicked, supernatural world. He then chose to frame Duncan’s innocent son for the gruesome murder. This propelled Macbeth to inherit the throne. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of Macbeth†™s killing spree spurred by the witches prophesies. Lady’s Macbeth’s coercion and Macbeth’s choice to listen resulted in restlessness. After his encounter with the witches, Macbeth wasn t fully ready to murder someone for the sake of getting what he desired, so he turned to his wife for counsel. She persuaded him to murder King Duncan to prove himself worthy of the throne. Wanting to show his strength and please his wife, he murdered Duncan. After committing the crime, Macbeth was instantly traumatized. He went crying to his wife saying, â€Å"Still it cried sleep no more! to all the house: Glamis hath murder d sleep, and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more; Macbeth shall sleep no more.† (Shakespeare, 2.2.38-40) This was true, from that time on Macbeth couldn t sleep. He was so overcome with guilt, he became haunted by his decision. As a result of the influences in Macbeth’s life, he was changed from a respectable and virtuous man to someone un recognizable. Before Macbeth ever listened to others about his future, he was regarded as noble. King Duncan said, â€Å"What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath won.† (Shakespeare, 1.2.68) Macbeth was respected

Among many fish farming practices, the omposite fish culture is one, which a common fish farmer can easily adopt with comparatively less investment to have more production and income than the traditional farming practice. Efforts are being made through Assam Agricultural Competitiveness Project (AACP) to increase fish production rates to a level of over 4000 kg/ha/yr. than around 1200 kg/ha/yr. as traditionally achieved. The common practice of composite culture includes 6 species of carps (3 indigenous and 3 exotic fishes) viz.Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Silver carp, Grass carp and Common carp. Generally, the species ratio is 30-40 % surface feeder; 15-20% column feeder, 40-50% bottom feeder and 5-15% macro vegetation feeder depending upon the depth and productivity status of the pond. A greater supply of irrigation water and a greater water depth required for fish culture. Is Taiwan Urbanization Rate Growing Urban Rural Areas

Definition of Urbanization The term urbanization can be looked at from diverse perspectives. First, urbanization can be explained to be the convergence of populations. Secondly, urbanization can be described as the process in which the movement of people into a given city translates into an urban way of living. Thirdly, it is the diffusion of the urban living to agricultural oriented regions.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Is Taiwan Urbanization Rate Growing? Urban Rural Areas specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Fourthly, urbanization is the progression in which the magnitude of people residing in urban places multiplies (Yeung and Lo, 1996). Due to its quantitative nature, the last definition is the mostly applicable. Urbanization can therefore be generally defined as the process in which the magnitude of people residing in urban places increases with the growth in economy (Yeung and Lo, 1996). Urbanizat ion in light of Taiwan In Taiwan, cities with at least 50000 people are considered as urban centers. Administratively, Taiwan is partitioned into central municipalities, provincial cities and prefectures that are two five and sixteen in number respectively (Yeung and Lo, 1996). Each prefecture encompasses at least one central city, a number of towns and several rural districts. Whereas both central municipalities and provincial cities are bigger in size, prefectures are of standard sizes, each with their central cities acting as their respective administrative centers. On the other hand, prefectural rural towns comprise of rural regions and mid-urban townships. Furthermore, Taiwan has been partitioned into four main parts: the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Central parts for planning purposes (Yeung and Lo, 1996). The ratio of the urban population to the total population determines the degree of Taiwanian urbanization. Statistically, the level of urbanization in Taiwan has escalate d over time, that is, from 24.1% in 1950 to over 74.1% in the twenty first century (Yeung and Lo, 1996). Statistics also indicate that the gap between annual population growth rate and the urbanization growth rates has narrowed over time, since 1950 to most recently. This shows that the movement of people from the agricultural regions to urban cities had started to ease. Primarily, industrialization was the main cause of the high urban growth rate (Yeung and Lo, 1996).Advertising Looking for research paper on environmental studies? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Apart from industrialization, a high birth rate emanating from mass flow of youth to the urban areas is also another determinant of high growth experienced in urban centers. Administratively, cities in Taiwan are in four groups: â€Å"Central municipalities, provincial cities, prefectural cities and towns plus rural areas† (Yeung and Lo, 1996). Statistics show that between 1961 and 1989, the yearly average growth rate of the central municipalities was more than the annual growth of Taiwan itself. Prefectural cities had the fastest growth, towns and rural areas had the lowest rate of growth compared to the natural population growth rate. This shows that there has been much out migration. Most of the intermediary prefectural cities are located close to the metropolis, and in this way, they contribute towards metropolitan development (Yeung and Lo, 1996). Statistics also indicate that the rate at which small and medium sized cities are expanding is higher than that of the bigger ones. After 1980, majority of the Island’s (Taiwan’s) major cities have been located mainly in the central, southern and northern regions. This can be attributed to the accompanying spontaneous rate of development in these regions. The Eastern part has lagged behind in development mainly due to its mountainous nature that renders both transportation and communication cumbersome. Since 1960, the spatial distribution of cities has been inclined towards the north and south. Although there is a metropolitan area in each region, the Eastern part is devoid of any. Taiwan’s urban system â€Å"An urban system is defined in terms of size, function, and service area (or area of influence), and by differences in the social, economic, and cultural activities of cities within a specific region. Spatially speaking, a hierarchical relationship is formed. Cities higher in the hierarchy are larger and have a higher functional level. They also have a more expanded sphere of influence and complex social, economic, and cultural characteristics. Cities within the hierarchy perform functions according to a division of labour. These close ties create an orderly relationship within the system† (Yeung and Lo, 1996).Taiwan can be classified into five hierarchical levels. The first level is agricultural villages that are found after about ever y 2-5 kilometers and have an estimated population of 4000 people. General towns are in the second level with a minimum and maximum population of 10000 and 50000 respectively. They are found between like every 10 kilometers. Local centers are found in the third level. They are independent towns, with majority being located in metropolitan regions. Their population can range between 100000-500000 people.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Is Taiwan Urbanization Rate Growing? Urban Rural Areas specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More They are interspersed between 15-40 intervals within a sphere of influence of between 2000000-800000 persons. The third level is occupied by the regional centers, which are mostly located in metropolitan areas, although some like Taitung and Hualien, are independent towns with a population of up to and exceeding two million people. They are located about 80 kilometers apart. Level five comprises of the political, cultural and economic center of Taiwan – Taipei. It has an area of influence covering about 5 million people. The whole Taipei metropolitan region is Taipei’s sphere of influence. The time required to travel between the northern and southern regions has been greatly reduced over the last four decades. This has been enhanced by not only the installation of the railway electrification, but also by completion of the Sun Yatsen Freeway (Yeung and Lo, 1996). Population and employment in Taiwan The population of Taiwan exponentially skyrocketed between 1950 and 1990. This one of the world’s biggest growth in population was determined mainly by high birth rate since there was no international in-migration by then. However, with time, the birth rate has been reducing to an increase in the level of education and introduction of population policy that requires fewer children per family. Population in Taiwan has been classified into three: the y outh, working class, and the elderly (Yeung and Lo, 1996). Over time, the working class has been the leading in number, Due to the presence of a metropolis (Taipei), the northern region has attracted majority of the population. Being the first city on the island to be globalized, Taipei has employed many people than any other city. The population in the Central, Eastern, and Southern parts has on the other hand been declining over time (Yeung and Lo, 1996). The secondary industry has been the main leading in providing employment to Taiwan people. The primary industry, though responsible for provision of employment through agriculture, forestry, and fishery, has declined. Tertiary employment has been rising gradually (Yeung and Lo, 1996). Expanding urbanization in the urban areas to minimize water pollution Taiwan like other Low Economically Developed Countries, experiences three main challenges. These are high population growth rate, reduced income levels, ineffective planning, and administrative mechanisms to handle the high population (Boult, 1999). The northern region is loaded with many industries that contribute to both water and air pollution.Advertising Looking for research paper on environmental studies? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More There is raw sewage from the households, increased application of fertilizers and pesticides, and contamination of clean water sources resulting to water pollution (Shambaugh, 1998. p.190). Besides industrial fumes, the use of automobiles such as buses, cars, and motorbikes has contributed to air pollution in Taiwan for decades (Shambaugh, 1998. p.192). There are also cases of soil pollution due to use of heavy metals and pesticides (Shambaugh, 1998. p.191). Taiwan is therefore faced with the hurdles of containing the impacts of economic growth and ensuring there is a sustainable dependency of its citizens on the Island’s economic resources (Elliot, 1999). To minimize pollution, Taiwan ought to initiate some legal requirements and fines. For example, companies found to be disposing wastes illegally should be fined, enlightening citizens on environmental aspects, directing all new vehicles to be fitted with catalytic chambers, among other restrictions (Boult, 1999). Strategies that can be implemented to help minimize rural-urban migration include creating job opportunities in the rural, introducing better educational and social services, and developing good transport network to encourage people to commute and live out of the city (Boult, 1999). Expanding urbanization to solve congestion and overpopulation As stated earlier, urbanization entails two key aspects. These are proportion of people residing in urban areas and growth in economy. In Taiwan, even though there is overpopulation within its urban centers, the growth in economy has not yet reached the level of sustaining the already increased population. Taiwan’s concentration of cities within the northern region has led to an increase in the rural urban migration. Just like other developing countries like China, Mexico, and Brazil among others, Taiwan is still a hub of overpopulation and poverty. This is due to the fact that, many people migrate from the rural districts to the urban areas in s uch for employment and better standards of living. Given that not all of them can be absorbed in employment, there are cases of congestion strain on available resources and anonymity that eventually leads to a reduction in the value system. Vices like crime and other conflicting social values set in. Generally, effects of overpopulation include: unemployment, overcrowding leading to depletion of resources, reduced living standards that curtail economic development, land fragmentation that impedes agriculture, and slum development resulting to air and water pollution, inability of the affected city to offer equitable and quality education and medical care to all and poverty, misuse of free land and deforestation (Boult, 1999). Given that Taiwan’s urban areas are more populated than its rural districts, expanding urbanization in the rural areas demands that the Taiwan government comes up with mechanisms to de-congest the urban centers. This may include investing in the health i ndustry, limiting car use, introducing lead-free fuel and putting up self-contained residences to help elevate people’s quality of life (Boult, 1999). As it has been the case in Los Angeles, railway transport can be spread to the agricultural areas to help development of such regions (Thisdell, 1993). The success of the development of new towns and industries in the southern region will be enhanced by efficient transport network between the rural parts and the metropolitan regions (Chaffey, 1994). There has been a decline in the agricultural (primary) industry and this could be one of the ways to revive it. To encourage employment, the informal sector should be established (Boult, 1999). Like other cities like Los Angeles, Taiwan ought to undertake some measures in the transport sector to minimize traffic congestion. For instance, creating an integrated underground route for passage of trains and other vehicles (Thisdell, 1993) or minimizing dependency on automobiles by devel oping a transport means that is pedestrian/cycle oriented, like has been done by other cities around the world (Newman, 1999). Conclusion Taiwan like other developing nations is experiencing industrialization and urbanization. This has led to a rise in rural – urban migration resulting to overpopulation, congestion, and pollution, which are a threat to sustainable development (Adams, 1999). These effects have in turn hampered economic growth, which is a vital ingredient in true urbanization. To disentangle itself from this problem, Taiwan should expand urbanization by spreading its industries to rural areas and technologically contain the situation in its northern region. This will help decongest the northern region. Investing more in education and health sectors and restructuring the transport system like other cities in the world have tackled it will help Taiwan stand the challenge of urbanization. This is the only way to ensure that there is sustainable development on this island. References Adams, W. N. (1999). Introducing Human Geographies: Sustainability. London: Arnold pub.
